Learning about the wonderful things that bees can do was a lot of fun and I feel like it has helped to ease my sons dislike of bees. He now knows that they aren't out there to just sting him (because they will die) and that they make the honey that he loves to have on his toast in the mornings. My youngest son was also extremely interested in the bee videos that we watched and learned a thing or two I hope. Our friends also just had their second baby boy so we wanted to do something nice for them. We decided that it would be helpful to take dinner over to them one night so they wouldn't have to worry about cooking. The boys and I slaved away in the kitchen for most of the day making homemade bread, breadsticks, pasta, sauce, and cookies to take over for dinner. It sure was a lot of fun to have the boys helping me cook in the kitchen that day and we all really enjoyed our dinner. My sons class also did some fun Zoom classes this week. They had their sunflower check

NY Style Bagels

I've been feeling a little more adventurous in my cooking and baking lately. It must be with all this extra time at home and the need to feel like I've accomplished something. I could easily get this feeling by cleaning and doing my regular cooking, but where is the fun in that? I have seen a lot of people posting pictures of the bagels they've been making and have always wanted to try it. I also love seeing everyone else's food post as it means I am not the only one eating my way through Social Distancing. I've now made these bagels a couple of times. I like that its a basic bagel recipe and that you add whatever toppings you like. The first time I made these I made Jalapeño Cheese bagels. The second time I made everything bagels as my mother in law just hooked me up with some everything bagel toppings. They are so GOOD!!! There are a lot of steps involved but everything is really simple so don't that that deter you from trying this recipe. I also love th

The last two weeks of space were so much fun! I'm sure we missed some planets and other topics about space but my son has become very interested in bees as of late and I think its time to learn about these amazing creatures. Our plants are doing well still and we had to plant them in our garden as they were needing bigger containers and the long range looked not too bad so far. We will definitely still watch what its going to be at night and might have to cover them if its looking like it will be too cool out. My oldest sons class is growing sunflowers right now so we have also been spending time talking about the life cycle of a seed. We finally have some sprouts on our sunflowers as well and he is really excited about it! His writing has really come along and he is just a reading champion right now. He loves to read books on EPIC as you get points for reading books and move up reading levels. He is so excited that his is at the highest level in his class

Waffles

This waffle recipe is actually so easy! I make this recipe all the time and the best part is that they freeze really well! I like to cut them into quarters and freeze in a ziplock bag as that makes them easy to access and the perfect size to pop into the toaster to heat up. Do not over mix your batter but do mix it well enough that everything is mixed well. I know... how do you know when its just right? Well the nice thing about this is the more you make it the better you understand BUT if you do happen to over mix (like I did a lot at the beginning) they still turn out! Other fun things to add to these waffles is sprinkles, chocolate chips, or blueberries to the batter. You can also add lots of different toppings like blueberry raspberry sauce, bananas, whipped cream, Nutella, any other fruit, sprinkles, the possibilities are endless! Just think about how fun it will be once we are allowed to have gatherings again to have a waffle bar at a brunch! Or if you don

Week 1 of space was a lot of fun. It was also an extremely busy week but with all of the space activities it kept us entertained. We are looking forward to Space week 2 when we can explore other planets and features of our solar system. Our plants are really doing well for the most part. We have started to acclimatize them by giving them time outside during the day when the weather has warmed up enough. I used my husbands "meat" bins for when he butchers to carry them in and out of the house and it seems to work well. So far they are all doing well with the changes in temperature, and wind. This weekend we are also planning on getting our gardens ready so that once the weather looks like it has officially warmed up for good then we can start to do our planting. We are also going to pick up a few plants that either didn't take when we planted their seeds, or I couldn't find seeds for. I am also hoping to pick up some other jalapeno pepper plants to see whi

Last week was so much fun! We learned a lot about dinosaurs and really took on some dinosaur personas. I will be happy to travel off into space where maybe we have less dinosaur fights?? The boys were so excited to have wafflesaurus for breakfast! I wish I could bottle up their excitement as it was so cute. This week we will blast off into space for Space Week 1. We will be doing two weeks of space as lets face it... it's huge and how can you cover everything in just 1 week? I have noticed a huge difference in my sons efforts and willingness to learn the past couple of weeks and I honestly want to say it is because of the consistency in our routine. I keep everything consistent and follow the same routine everyday. This means that they know what is coming next and we have less arguments about doing our school work. So, if you are dealing with push back about school or even anything I would recommend a routine and keeping consistent with it. Kids love routine as they l
